Well good afternoon RMW and all you beautiful brides and gorgeous grooms!
I have to start my first blog by thanking all you wonderful people who voted for us, we were totally shocked and touched that so many people supported us. For me, to have the chance to share our journey with you all is massively exciting… Ok and a tad scary but here we go, wish me luck lovelies! So, grab a cuppa and get comfy let’s recap and meet Team Curtis!
Our Special Story
Rewind to November 2012 we’re at our special place in Koh Lanta, Paul and I have been out for an amazing meal looking over the cove. After a few cocktails we are wandering back to our resort when we stopped to look at some super cute hearts that had been drawn in the sand and to gaze at the stars. It was totally romantic and secluded just us, then before I knew it Paul was down in the sand on one knee asking me to be his wife! Lots of tears, jumps for joy and celebrating followed. Take note; do not celebrate with one too many cocktails when you are scheduled to go diving the next day – bad idea!
One thing I must tell you about the whole proposal tale is how my clever boy got my gorgeous rock all the way to Thailand. The ring travelled about 6500 miles in style, James Bond style hidden inside a book. Yes that’s right, a book! After he asked my father’s permission for my hand in marriage, team engagement was formed and Dad constructed the book in his man cave, sent it to Paul and he adapted it to suit.
Yes the book really is that big, yes the pages are glued together apart from the top 20 or so, and no, I wouldn’t ever pick this book up to read it as its yawn-a-rama! The ring box was nestled neatly inside and made it through all security check ins, without any fuss, all boys should take note of this fact!
The book now happily sits on our bookshelf and will remain part of our story for many years to come.
Team Curtis
On returning home we shared our wonderful news and celebrated with all our friends and family. It was so nice to enjoy just being engaged for a month or so before starting the serious planning. We did however pick our winning team. Ladies and gentlemen I would like to introduce you to Team Curtis!
Ladies first and here they are, my girls, aren’t they gorgeous?
Laura and I have been friends since we were teeny tiny at first school. We’ve grown up together, school, girl guides, hanging out in the park, college, driving tests, boyfriends, the lot, we’ve always been true friends. Laura is a fun loving girl with a great sense of humour and positive outlook; I absolutely love this girl to pieces, she’s a true friend and means the world to me. Laura has always been in my life and I couldn’t imagine sharing this experience with anyone else, I’m excited to say I am Laura’s bridesmaid this August so we are even wedding planning together. Don’t worry RMW I will share a snap of her in all her glory if she lets me! She is going to look stunning, I cannot wait!
I met Charlotte at secondary school. We seem to have this mutual understanding that only we can explain, not to mention a love for all things girly, especially shopping! Char and I have shared many memorable adventures and had a lot of laughs along the way. On one of our recent shopping trips I thought I’d try my luck with a dress that was a size 6 rather than an 8, 8 was out of stock annoyingly, why is that always the way! This as you can imagine resulted in me getting stuck in a dress and then falling about laughing hysterically whilst Char had to peel it off me like it was a 2nd layer of skin! Come on girls we’ve all done it! I love Char and all our ridiculous dramas, she’s my girl and she’s always right by my side, I couldn’t have my day without her keeping me sane.
Then there is Lucy and Edith my flower girls, this pair of little gems are Paul’s nieces. Lucy is literally beside herself about being a bridesmaid and has even flicked through a couple of wedding mags and given me advice on shoes, make up and colours, not bad for a 5 year old. Edith on the other hand being 2 probably has no idea what is going on but will look angelic I’m sure, either that or she will make us all fall about laughing with her mischievous ways.
Now for the boys… check out this bunch of likely lads…
Dan is Paul’s best man; they met at school aged 11 and became best of friends. These two could be found knocking about in the villages of Northamptonshire with the 3 other members of their gang, Neil, Emma and Adam . There are many characters in the group but Dan has always been the sensible one who has kept Paul’s feet firmly on the ground. They have been through so much together, Dan is the one Paul turns to when he needs a friend so there was no doubt in Paul’s mind who he would want to be his best man and stand proudly by his side on the big day.
Neil Curtis, no relation just pure coincidence, was also part of the cool kids hanging out in Northants. These clowns have been through a lot together, ski trips, boys holidays, lads nights, actually they have spent many a drunken night together and probably got themselves into all sorts of trouble along the way. When they were young, free and single I doubt this pair would have thought in their mid thirties they would be sitting round a table drinking tea discussing what to plant in their allotments. When did they grow up and become so sensible? Ok, well maybe just grow up then!
Then last but of course not least we have Matt. Fun bobby Matt and Paul have been mates for over 15 years, these pair of fools’ equal disaster when left unattended. They are drinking buddies, partners in crime and go out of their way to try and embarrass each other at any given opportunity, they just love a good joke these two! Matt is a true friend to Paul and even after all their hilarious adventures and crazy drinking sessions these boys mean so much to each other and no day would be complete without Matt keeping a things ship shape and in order.
So that’s it, the first one ticked off the list. I was hoping to tell you all about the gorgeous venue and our amazing photographer, those of you who know me well will know I can talk for England so sorry gals and guys you will just you wait until next time. I’ve had some fantastic experiences so far on my journey and I’m bursting with excitement to share them with you all, until next time…
Hugs, kisses and wedding wishes
